Know something? I don't GIVE A D**N how many Afghani dead bodies litter the landscape at the end of this. This is like worrying about Japanese or German civilians during WWII. They wanted war; they got it- -in spades. The hijackers were not Americans, remember? They may not have been Afghanis either, but the fact is the Afghanis gave them aid and shelter so they could plan for, train for, and carry out their scheme. The Afghanis lost their place in my calculus on 9/11/2001. Period. You're presumption is that the Taliban is a legitimate representative of the people of Afghanistan. What other representative do they have? They control 90% of the country. Is the US government representative of Americans? Was Hitler's government representative of Germans? And how do you KNOW they are not representative of the Afghanis? There sure seem to be enough Muslims cheering what bin Laden did.You sound angry D**n right.you are justified in being angry D**n right. especially when the people there have nothing to lose. They have their LIVES to lose for sheltering these monsters. Now we have to convince them of that. When they are, they will see the light.Do you remember Viet Nam? Yes. Another war I disapproved of and opposed. Sheer stupidity. And part of the stupidity is that the US fought it as a DEFENSIVE war. We only wanted to defend S. Vietnam. And lost because of that. This war need not be fought on those terms. If the Taliban still does not see things our way after we've turned the rubble into sand, we should go in with troops, capture them, execute them, and install our own government. Then support that government and give it aid so that it can eventually bring Afghanistan into the 21st century and gives its people a decent life. Vietnam need not apply here. And the fact that the British and Soviets failed need not either. They did not have our technology or soldiers. And I say Che did more dead than he ever did alive. You're right. South America is now Communist. Pardon the sarcasm, but that's a rather poor counter-argument. I'd say it proves my point (that conventional forces can and have defeated unconventional forces) rather than yours.
