Here's a link to a story about Grant county PUD in Washington State. Cisco is building out a network based on their equipment so the PUD can "meter" in real time all the power meters in the county.

On top of that they are going to start their own IP phone system, cable TV, and Internet services on the same fiber to all homes and business in the county.

It got Qwest hopping mad!

How would you like DSL service for $9.95 a month?

P.S. I fly sailplanes out of Ephrata during the summer months. Back in 1992 their power was .89 cents per kilowatt hour. That was the cheapest power in the country then and I believe it still has the cheapest power. They own two of their own dams on the Columbia river and sell excess power on the open market. They made a killing the last few years selling excess power to California! They were fortunate not to invest in WPPS back in the 70's.(Big bond debacle)
