but when a democracy such as ours is forced into a war, turning back before complete victory is not going to happen.

We can't without generating tremendous self-doubt and self-loathing. We must obtain something that resembles victory so we can set our spirits to rest knowing we righted a wrong perpetrated maliciously against us.

You see, when terrorists and outlaw states run by dictators threaten and attack, they can always make an about-face and terminate hostilities quickly,

Only because the US shows self-restraint and concern for our "allies" in the region. But, as with Nazi Germany and Japan, the allies all agreed not to persue a separate peace, and that unconditional surrender was the only acceptable end to hostilities.

And now that Russia is on our side, unconditional surrender, once again, seems to have found its way into the American vocabulary, although masked as "there is nothing to negotiate".

The terrorists and their sponsors obviously spent too much time reading the Koran and bombing manuals instead of an occasional glance at a history book. The Germans and Japanese once made the same mistake. You see, when terrorists and outlaw states run by dictators threaten and attack, they can always make an about-face and terminate hostilities quickly, but when a democracy such as ours is forced into a war, turning back before complete victory is not going to happen.

Last night I professed my love for Don Rumsfeld. Tonight I am in love with you.
