Hawk, I agree with much of what you say but not this: Btw, I don't believe in "installing" democracies I recall we did pretty well installing them In Germany and Japan 56 years ago. The question is not to be half-hearted about it but to truly commit, and that means a presence in these countries for at least ten years and massive aid. The fact is, this is in our interest, for not only our national security but also our economy. Imagine our economy without Germany and Japan as trading partners and strong economies. This is the flip side: do the right thing now and our grandchildren will reap great rewards for it. It takes courage but it can be done. If we wait, the dangers are enormous.
