Suffering Afghans need food not bombs: Afghan Commander

(Note... Not sure if this guy quoted is Taliban or NA, interesting the "lack of educational facilities" is mentioned...I thought Taliban banned education, well to half of the population anyway...PB)

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A prominent Afghan commander, Haji Maalik says disintegration and humiliation has been the fate of those who attacked the innocent people of Afghanistan.

In a statement here, he said that the former Soviet Union had also dreamt of conquering Afghanistan by the dint of force and imposing of a puppet regime on the people of Afghanistan. However, all its military might miserably failed to subdue the people of Afghanistan.

He regretted that the United States was nourishing similar dreams and has rained the soil of Afghanistan with missiles and aerial bombing causing hundreds of deaths during the past nine days.

He reminded the international community that the plight of the Afghan people has worsened as dozens of people were already dying of hunger in the war-torn country and children facing mal-nutrition. People were forced to eat grass. Besides the future of the Afghans was bleak due to the lack of educational facilities and ruined infrastructure.

The Afghan commander said that hundreds of thousands of people inside Afghanistan would die of starvation if foodstuff were not provided to them on emergency basis.

Haji Maalik urged the United States and its allies to stop air strikes on Afghanistan and provide foodstuff to the Afghan people instead. He also urged the International organizations and Muslim countries to take stock of the situation and help the suffering Afghan people. (NNI)
