The easiest way to ruin a thread is to permit/tolerate obscene language. Look at some of the Yahoo threads, in which every other post is either a pump-and-dump teen-ager touting a penny stock or a post with six mentions of the F word. Such foul language eventually drags all intelligent discourse into the gutter. A larger problem with using obscene language is that all arguments eventually become reduced to an 8th-grade cussing match rather than a semi-intelligent discussion of the issues. As far as personal physical threats ... I don't think that would ever happen unless the combatants happened to live in the same city. A more serious threat involves extremist-whackos discovering the real identity of someone, then sending letters and e-mails to that person's place of employment. That's why I've never disclosed where I work ... or even what line of work I'm in. Too many extremist nut cases out there.

I don't use and I don't think using foul language does anything to convey meaning. I also don't post here to have a knock down, drag out? But I put down any who post crap and character attacks based on fabrication and imagination. There are those who have shown my they have no respect of anything and I do use the term asshole to describe the few who over many posts show they are A thoroughly contemptible, detestable person. tom watson tosiwmee
