BIG BLUE has kicked off the autumn seaon by introducing a dual Itanic-800 Intellistation which it says will be available on the 31st of October.

The Z Pro comes with Nvidia Quadro 2 Pro graphics or Matrox G450 AGP 4X, an Ultra 160 SCSI hard drive, a CD-RW drive, integrated Ethernet, Windows XP 64-bit edition, eight slots, nine bays, four fan "zones" and a whopping 800W power supply.

The board includes sixteen SDRAM sockets supporting up to 16Gb of memory.

The four fan "zones" are for chips, memory, IO and "exhaust", while system software comes with a preload image on the HDD.

Big Blue says that the Z Pro has a migration path for Unix users and its price and performance will "encourage more customers" to migrate from other Unix platforms. Not a huge vote for the somewhat experimental Windows XP 64 then.

No prices are given for the product by IBM. µ
