Intel Introduces High-Performance CompactPCI Boards for Mission-Critical Telecom Applications
Offers Increased Processing Power for High-End Systems in the Modular Network
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2001--Fall Voice On the Net 2001--Intel Corporation introduced the Intel® ZT 5523 System Master Processor Board, which is designed to provide the processing power necessary for high-performance telecommunications equipment such as media gateways, broadband access devices, routers and switches, and cellular base stations.

The ZT 5523 board is the latest in Intel's line of CompactPCI(1) products that serve as computing cores for high-performance telecommunications and data communications applications. The product line includes scalable platform and peripheral products, as well as off-the-shelf, pre-built computing systems designed to help developers create fast, time-to-market applications.

The ZT 5523 offers customers a wide range of features including Pentium® III processors running at up to 866 MHz, with up to 2 gigabytes of SDRAM running at 133 MHz on the Front Side Bus (FSB). The ZT 5523 has an on-board Extended Integrated Drive Electronics (EIDE) hard drive, two 10/100 Ethernet ports, on-board flash memory and an optional CompactFlash(1) Type II socket. The high memory capacity and dual processor power of the ZT 5523 reduces the need to pass data back and forth between the system memory and the hard-drive, which improves the performance of complex applications.

The board is available in versions that support 33MHz/64 bit or 66MHz/64 bit Compact PCI system bus operation. With support for industry standard operating systems including Windows(1) and Linux(1), and VxWorks(1), the ZT 5523 provides a leading combination of processing power and enhanced memory capacity on a single board.

``Many of today's telecommunications applications require a high level of processing power along with high capacity memory on a single board in order to run optimally and efficiently,'' said Bob Ehlers, CompactPCI product line manager at Intel Corporation. ``The ZT 5523 was designed to provide these new telecom applications the high performance processor resource they need to operate effectively.''

Based on PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG)(1)-compliant technology, the ZT 5523 gives application designers the advantage of low-cost, off-the-shelf components but with the flexibility and scalability of a modular, product-based environment.

Pricing and Availability

The ZT 5523 is available immediately with single unit pricing starting at $5395 with dual Pentium® III processors and 1GB of SDRAM. Intel also offers design consultation and technical support for this product. Additional information on the ZT 5523 can be found at intel.com
