I did not intentionally leave out the Canadian oil sounds - actually do not know much about them. My husband actually dictated most of the letter - we picked things that we thought Congress could do something about. I assume that everything that has to do with private enterprise which is going forward without hindrance does not need any Congressional action. If you know of something Congress can do, let me know and I will write to my Congressmen - they are men, Sen. Allen, Sen. Warner and Sen. Tom Davis. Republicans all.

I am in the process of composing a letter to Pres. Bush telling him that I think our initial instincts were right - we should not engage in the process of "nation-building" in Afghanistan. Intervening in the governments of other countries causes too much hostility - I think it backfires worse than it is worth.

I think many of us here in the US are thinking something which was formerly unthinkable - what would happen if we just pulled out of the Middle East completely? Quit giving billions to stabilize Israel, Egypt, Palestine, and the rest of them, pulled our troops out of Kuwait, quit selling arms to Saudi Arabia, just let them deal with each other as they will?

Other than oil, what interest do we have there? Would Saddam be a danger to anyone but his immediate neighbors? Is it our job to save the Kurds and so forth or is it the job of the United Nations?

We used to be fighting the Cold War but there is no longer a Cold War. We don't need a Pan-Arab war.
