Murdered by the forces of Arafat in the middle of Jerusalem. Minister of Knesset Rehavam Zeevy was murdered by PLO gunmen as he entered his hotel room in the middle of Jerusalem. His body was found by his wife in the corridor. His loss to Israel cannot be underestimated, his often was the one lone voice standing in the gap against the arabists of oslo, always a ready ear to the residents of Yesha he was a proven friend time and time again to those who loved Israel. His courage was legendary. He was also my former commander in the Yom Kippur War, he was the commander of the army command in Beersheva when the war broke out, and it was he hearing from one of the other officers that I had served in recon in Vietnam just a few years before and was now a volunteer working at the command headquarters that sent me to a recon unit working in the Sinai just three days into the war. Later when I was recuperating from a wound received five days after the imposed cease fire Ghandi visited me in the hospital. He visited several more times before I was discharged, not just I but all of us who had been wounded in the war. I found out later that he also made the time to attend funerals throughout the country of soldiers in his and others commands. Ghandi cared about people. Years later he was one of my main sponsors when I made aliyah, writing a wonderful letter for me. The Interior office let me submit a copy of it instead of the original after they read the original, they signed off on the copy. In the years since Ghandi has been a constant friend of Yesha, and a frequent visitor throughout Yesha. He has been one of the honestly 'real' leaders for Israel, a rare commodity where real people are so seldom seen. Always approachable, always clear thinking, and always thinking and speaking for the betterment of Israel, and the people of Israel. He will be missed. He was a blessing while we had him. Only HaShem knows just how much he will be missed. Go well my friend, you have truly earned your rest. May HaShem avenge your blood, and soon. B'Ahavat Israel Yaacov Levi
