You know, I could easily have written that precise post myself and been quite proud of it. We are completely in agreement on those points. It has often been said, but bears repeating, that truth is the first casualty in war. But I think you're a bit harsh on the "unconfirmed" statement -- after all, the Taliban are prohibiting foreign journalists from entering their country for an objective look at what's happening. That's their absolute right, and I don't see us escorting Taliban journalists around our aircraft carriers. But when they expel all foreign journalists from their country, and report certain things, our media have, I think, a right, perhaps even a responsibility, to report those as uncomfirmed. I do see them also reporting some allegations of our government as unconfirmed when that is merited. Though with the sources they have within the military, and the number of people who are willing to talk off the record even when they shouldn't, I think confirmation of certain statements of our government is probably easier to come by than comfirmation of certain statements of the Taliban. So I don't necesssarily see the difference as something to be suspicious of. But overall, we are excellent agreement.
