I am not sure how you come to the conclusion that posts like the one made by Carolyn and other last night are civil, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

But it is in the nature of these debate... the simple fact that we are free to express our views without restriction (and admittedly, sometimes with poor discretion)...that we may forget that young Americans are currently in a hostile environment trying to defend.

You are referring to our troops and this is a good point. I'd also like to point out that at this very moment there are Americans who have been attacked by chemical weapons. My heart goes out to them all.

I have not read the last 10,000 posts on this board so I am not well informed, at this point, on the personal dynamics among the various authors on this board. Considering the nature of the subject currently being debated, there has been a great deal of civility, in my opinion.

Well, I've been reading them since the beginning. And since the beginning we've been discussing the rules of engagement. In between shouting wars, that is. The level of civility last evening, as you say, was pretty good. It's just that the more partisan posters here had developed a truce, of sorts, just after the 11th in the spirit of national unity. IMO, that truce was breached last night. That's the only reason I spoke up. Usually I respond to the incivility by retreating until it's safe to go back in the water. Just some context, FWIW.
