19:05) Sharon pledges 'a war to the finish'

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon today pledged "a war to the finish against the terrorists, their helpers and those who sent them."

The "full responsibility [for the assassination] falls squarely on Arafat," he added.

Sharon made his remarks following the assassination of Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi in Jerusalem this morning.

The government decided to reimpose travel restrictions on Palestinians in Judea and Samaria. They had been eased earlier in the week.

The Cabinet is to meet later today, and analysts speculate that harsher retaliation may be considered.

"What happened today requires a reassessment in all fields – military, political and international," Sharon spokesman Arnon Perlman told Israeli television. "This reassessment will have heavy significance."
