Len,

I keep an open mind.

50+ years is a long time and frankly I don't think its possible to change the fact that Israel exists not should it become neccessary for there to be peace in the world.

Now I am not completely versed in Iraq's history but from what I recall the place has seen hardly anything but overthrow / coup / execution of its leaders. Hussein, then a VP, was said to intimidate his predecessor into resigning.

[look out Bush, Cheney is close behind :) ]

Hussein launched a war with Iran. Hussein invaded Kuwait.

Overall it seems that he needed, desperately, scapegoats on which to blame the country's significant problems rather than own up to the blame of his own foreign policy.

Other than the pre-emptive strike against Iraqi nuclear facilities, I don't recall (not saying there isn't further involvement) much in the way of overt Israeli action against them.

Yet all the while Hussein's been keen to sound the old 'push them into the sea' call.

Someone please correct me if I have any major issues or facts incorrect.

Does it always come down to anti-Jewish reasons or are Israelis/Zionists blameless?

As I've said, I don't think Hussein / Iraq's problems have *anything* at all to do with Israel!

Meanwhile, his people suffer. Some leader.
