We have no clue (which
is scary) how many illegal Islamics are roaming our country as we speak, nor what they
may doing.

I loved the comment of, I believe, Jay Leno. Sometimes the greatest truth is in humor. He pointed out that we allow thousands of foreigners with expired visas to wander around the country unmolested, but be two days late with your video rental and Blockbuster will be all over you. We need to put Blockbuster in charge of visa enforcement.

Well, not Blockbuster itself, but their commitment to protecting their assets and enforcing time limits.

I know that at least some of the 9/11 terrorists were here on legal visas. But I understand some weren't. If those had been found and deported on time, events might have come out differently. Maybe not, maybe so. The sad thing is that it's too late for 5,000+ people to find out.

The first duty of a government is to protect its citizens from enemies, foreign and domestic. IMO, enforcing our immigration laws is a signifcant part of that duty.

I wasn't intending to suggest that this was being done in Afghanistan (although it wouldn't surprise me). I would think it is being done right here.

I think if it is being done it is more likely to be done here as well, but I would think that at most Al-Qaida would have a couple of dozen operatives and maybe a few score of support people here, probably less. They probably spend a lot of their time on other things and even if they all monitored the internet 24/7 the odds would be against them stumbleing in to this particular conversation. (although it does seem eerie thinking that what I am typing now may be relayed back to bin Laden...)
