re: It's worse than that. Heard this secondhand: A sales rep from Best Buy explained that "quantispeed" meant that the processor actually ran 4x the speed.

Suppose that consumer believes that explanation, and buys the computer. Who are they going to blame when they find out it's not true? Not the clerk, not Best Buy, they are going to blame AMD, or they are going to blame the OEM. Will they return the computer? Some will, some won't. Will they ever buy AMD / the box maker again, no.

Consumers never forget.
