3 mile island has received what the FBI describes as a credible threat.

these are not wolf cries....the authorities hate to put out stuff like this. they know that eventually we will become accustomed to them and do nothing. these are very real threats or we would not hear about them. the FBI has stated that another 200 active terrorists may be in our country.
before we become complacent, let's take a moment and evaluate the situation.

in 5 weeks:
we have had massive aircraft/explosive attacks on America. in one hour, these attacks killed 6,000 citizens at their workplace. 10,000 American children lost a parent. they disrupted our entire banking and investing system putting all of our savings and pensions at risk. they screwed up our air transport, hotel and restaurant industry. over 100,000 Americans employed by airlines have lost their jobs in the last month because of these attacks. 600 American civilian aircraft are being moved to storage. banks, investment firms, hotels, disney, car rental companies, restaurants have laid off more than another 100,000 after these 4 attacks.

our entire 2+ million man armed forces is on high alert and frantically deploying worldwide. our best soldiers are already in mortal combat in far away places hard to find on a map.

so far, the anthrax attack may seem relatively minor, but look at how effective it has been at such a small level. a couple of letters have shut down the US Congress early yesterday, today and monday and disrupted the flow of our mail system. three weeks ago the threat of a bioligical attack seemed too horrible and surreal to even give it a serious thought. now we have an on-going and ever-widening bioligical attack underway. imagine what 100 or 500 or 5,000 such letters will do...all for the cost of an envelope and a stamp.

now we have a viable nuclear threat in pennsylvania!
it too seems too horrible to contemplate. fallout zones and the release of nuclear material do not have to come from an H bomb though we have been told that that is a real possibility. it can also come from a damaged power plant or by mixing more readily available nuclear waste with explosives and detonating it into the atmosphere.

remember, sophisticated military planners will threaten or even attack one location as a diversion from the main attack to be conducted elsewhere.
in one of my first messages after this started, i pointed out that the airline attack may be a feint to get us oriented away from the main attack to come. we have nearly all of our security resources oriented towards making flying safe. every police force, federal agent and national guard is involved in airline safety.
we are now vulnerable everywhere else.

given the proximity of 3 mile island and many other nuclear plants in the US to major population centers and the prevailing winds...a fallout zone could make WTC casualties seem puny and render large populated areas uninhabitable. an airborne release of a bioligical agent could accomplish the same thing.

60s vets will tell you the situation is FUBAR.

those who know me from combat...those who have sparred with me in the dojo, know that i am attack and fight kind of guy. i seldom back up and then only after i see a weakness in your attack that i can exploit by pulling back a bit to set an ambush. chemical, bioligical and radioligical agents are a different kind of opponent. you cannot kill them with a bullet or a jab/punch/kick combo. they demand a full retreat from the threatened area. if you are in or close to such an area, your mission becomes simply to survive to fight another day. Americans think of their home as their safe haven...in the 50s and 60s everyone built a fallout shelter in their backyard. these shelters might protect you from blast but not CBR fallout.

given the current attacks and threats, i believe we all need:
to be able to quickly calculate an approximate fallout zone and an escape route.
a family rendezvous plan.
a basic load of supplies and food.
the entire American government, every govt agency and element of our armed forces are on high alert...shouldn't we be?

the red cross has some terrific ideas on this.

i am not a survivalist per se...i am a realist. my goal is to keep my family safe...to protect them if it becomes necessary...then i will be able to comfortably join the fight.
