POSCO Goes Live With i2 Supply Chain Management Solution; Project is Largest i2 Metals Implementation Ever
October 17, 2001 7:36:00 PM ET

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2001--i2 Technologies, Inc. ITWO, the leading provider of dynamic value chain solutions, today announced that Pohang Iron and Steel Company (POSCO), based in Seoul, Korea and one of the world's largest steel companies, has gone live with 11 modules of the i2 Supply Chain Management solution as a part of POSCO's PI (Process Innovation) project.

The implementation comprises the largest number of modules installed in one steel company in i2's history. The installation was part of a larger project in which the i2 software was acting as the catalyst for POSCO's business process improvements.

Starting with demand collaboration and supply planning, and extending through demand fulfillment, transportation planning and customer relationship management, the i2 solution is designed to add substantial value. According to POSCO, the company expects to realize a rapid return on investment as a result of using i2 solutions.

"We are pleased to announce the simultaneous go-live of the 11 modules of the i2 solution, many with multiple installations," said Kyeong-Ryul Ryoo, CIO, POSCO. "We expect to achieve significant business benefits. With i2 SCM, POSCO expects to shorten the production and sales planning lead time and Available To Promise (ATP) notification considerably. Furthermore, POSCO expects to raise its delivery ratio. The performance of the implementation members of POSCO and i2 was that of a 'Dream Team'. POSCO truly appreciates the sincere effort made by i2."

"POSCO is recognized as one of the world leaders in steel," said Dian Jen, i2 vice president, Asia Metals Marketing. "While i2 has a long history in the metals industry, this was by far our most extensive and challenging project to date. Everyone involved with the implementation feels a true sense of accomplishment; we are proud and privileged to have been part of this "Big Bang" initiative. The success of the implementation was based on trust and respect between i2, POSCO and additional participating partners throughout the PI Project. We are appreciative of that teamwork and are prepared to take the partnership further as POSCO marches boldly into the 21st Century."
