India asks Pakistan to hand over Kashmir assembly bombers Thursday October 18, 1:28 AM NEW DELHI (AFP) - India has asked Pakistan to arrest and hand over "terrorists" who staged a suicide attack on Kashmir's state legislature building which left 38 people dead, Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh said Wednesday. Singh said the demand was conveyed to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf by Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in a telephone conversation last week. The Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad separatist group initially claimed responsibility for the October 1 attack, which also left more than 60 people injured, but later retracted the claim. The United States has frozen assets of the Jaish in its war against global terrorism. Singh said the demand was conveyed when Musharraf called Vajpayee last week, when he condemned the attack in Srinagar. Singh, quoting Vajpayee, said the Indian premier then told Musharraf that the "next logical step was to arrest those who claimed to have done it, apprehend them, arrest them and hand them over to India."
