There is a tradition amongst desert tribes amongst whom hospitality is a great honour and responsibility, that if someone comes to visit your tent, you must feed him meat, especially if it is more than a casual visit. So slaughtering a camel or even resorting to lizard meat is de rigeur if one is to be an honourable host. Take a look at the desert from Arabia to China. There is lots. What do you think lives there? I don't see herds of buffalo roaming thereabouts. Not a lot of grass and trees grow in the area. So you must eat what is there. Never mind dietary laws, I would say the law of necessity made them eat what they could find. They probably have recipes for fried scorpion, boiled rock snake and even fricassee of cousin. With no refrigeration and few resources you wonder how they supported cities in rocky forbidding places like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran. The desolation of these countries is overwhelming. And they could not all live in the Tigris-Euphrates. The Don and the Volga is the Uke highway, where is the Arabian well spring? The silk road needs water and food and cloth. Felix Arabia is too far away, the cities are not all coastal.
Obviously Arabs did a lot more than drift about sand dunes as they had metals, and many other home grown technologies. But it isn't immediately obvious where the Peninsula Arabs or inland people mined iron, copper, tin, or gold or grew wheat and cotton. We know the metals are there but we don'the mention of any core industrial technology except amongst the Sumerians, and the Egyptians. Everybody else seems to have been jockeying about on dromedaries, or drifting in Dhows trading Tarragon for bullets. Perhaps that is what made Mohammed's people so conquest aquisitive. They needed the resources for an expanding population.
Suleiman's and Saladin's people expanded west and east with robust and well equipped armies. You don't do that without fuel, water, cloth, leather, steel, bronze and food. You don't just find that stuff in scrap heaps in the desert. So they had to be miners, sailors, farmers, weavers, herdsman and metal workers. This is what makes a civilization tick. Industry. Without it, there is nothing to trade with. But if they could produce all that why did they expand? Because they needed more. Shortages made war.
What is driving the Arab/Muslim to bomb America, is lack of water, the Bosch-Haber process, presence of oil, and overpopulation. There are 1.2 billion Muslims) Paradoxically if we give him more technology, or short resources, he will be more successful at bombing. He has priced his oil at what cost it is to him to import dynamite. If we neutron bomb his population back to perhaps 300 million, we will do him and us a favour. I favour the latter approach over supplying more technology and letting him Nuke us eventually.
It is obvious the Muslim will try to conquer the world. Let's stop the nonsense talk about moderates and extremists. There were moderate Russians, Germans, Mongols, Vietcong, etc. Napoleon and Queen Victoria ruled a race of moderate, sensible fr. and English who tried to conquer the world. Alexander led some moderate Greeks to "bring civilization" to the Barbarians. The Romans were eminently reasonable and spread their just empire as far as was practicable to march and build stockades. West had more wood. What Ibn Saud said to the American oil men was "we will use your Iron, leave our faith alone." what he meant was give us your weapons, we will use them for our intent. His faith was to expand his dominion. Look carefully at what people do. If they breed like rabbits its because the pen is is mightier than the sword. They expand their tribe at the expense of yours. Eventually there will be conflict.
Our military advantage will last perhaps 35 years. If we are to stop Muslim expansion, in its demonstrable and implacable moderateness, then we had better act before that time. Hemming in 1.2 billion, resolute, opposed and technologically acquisitive people with a medieval single mindedness of conquest and death, will not be a walk in the park. My preference would be to build our armies to about ten million highly trained soldiers(about 5 years), our missile defense to perhaps 50,000 offensive and defensive neutron and pin point conv. weapons and attack with an en masse infrastructure attack. Surround and blockade. We don't have to kill more than say 30 million in 13 countries. Let starvation do the rest. In this group, because of their faith, as they put it, and the population dynamics, we have no friends. Kill all domestic radicals and inter all others. Don't worry about making people mad. We bombed the Germans to absolute rubble and they are great buddies now. When they have nothing to be mad with, they have no choice but to be friends. Nothing against the people. We just have to stop their dynamic of conquest. You notice that with an even more polarized population we have no trouble with South Americans. That is because they have enough resources for their population. The trouble will eventually spread to China and Mexico, who are running out. That will be world war IV. we had better plan to win them rather than naively plan to lose or ignore their eventuality. History teaches us what causes the war. Religion or race is not it. These are only banners for rallying troops.
You either run the world or you are a slave. Rule or live in fear. Make up your mind. You and I know except for the rather unselective but necessary violence in establishing who is boss, our rule would be as benign as a mother to an infant. We also know that their rule like their rules of war, would be as tryannical and slave driven as the Taliban is today. (Hint for doubters. Name all the moderate Muslim democracies. Coincidence?) We would disappear as a people since our stubborness would not allow us to submit, so they would slaughter.
Armageddon it would appear is impossible to avoid. Let's win it. It's nasty but they give us no ultimate choice.
