ML :Advanced Micro Devices (Amd; $9.71; C-3-1-9) Dec01E d$0.11 Lowering 02E from $0.27 to d$0.23

o Advanced Micro Devices reported a loss of $0.28 per share on revenue of
$766 million for the September 2001 quarter, largely in line with our revised
estimates.

o We are reducing our Q42001 and full-year 2002 EPS estimates again - Q4
goes to a loss of $0.25 from a loss of $0.16, while 2002 goes to a loss of
$0.27 from a profit of $0.23.

o In our view, AMD is doing as good a job of responding to Intel's P4 push
as possible - we believe the Athlon XP is a good part, and manufacturing
execution at AMD has been consistent.

o However, we are staying on the sidelines to see how long Intel keeps the
pricing pressure on. Our intermediate-term rating stands at Neutral.
