Personally, I was reluctantly and angrily inclined to the same belief until it showed up in Pataki's office.

Did not mean to belittle your perspective at all. In fact, I pretty much agree. Feingold's office is right next to Daschle's, so I think we'd have to eliminate specific intent there. I never heard about a specific letter to Pataki, either. I heard the security office in his offices was where it was found. So, yes, why the "liberal media" and Senate Majority leader? For that matter, why the tabloid press? Same strain.

These are either tests, or "inside jobs" as you put it, or feints to occupy the FBI while some other plan is forming.
