Thanks for the update on wind. My info is somewhat fragmented, but I have seen a design for a unit that can produce up to 15 kw at a total capital cost of about $9,000. It must be connected to the grid and/or have some load at all times, including possibly a large water heater. It produces power with winds as low as 5 knots and automatically shuts down if the wind is greater than 40 knots. The loading of the generator is software controlled.

On the topic of wind power...

Here in Houston for the past several months I have seen convoys of trucks transporting what I imagine are blades for wind turbines. These are about 60-80 ft in length, maybe 6-8 feet at the widest point. They usually run 4-6 trucks together, with the required escort vehicles, always going west. It seems like I see them 2-3 times a week.

Are these indeed what they appear to be? Where are they coming from and going?
