The Greek and Middle Eastern dishes are not terribly expensive. How do you feel about lox and bagels or chopped chicken liver?

That's what parties are for, among other things... trying new foods. And all those are designed for a small nibble here and there; smear some on a cracker or bit of pitta or breadstick & eat, then try something else.
Just save the port and stilton for the finish. (In the UK, one tradition is to eat them with Xmas Cake - a very dark, rich fruit cake: the sharpness of a good stilton contrasts perfectly).
You'll find most of the others at a good Middle Eastern or Mediterranean restaurant, although there'll be differences between (say) Greek, Turkish and Lebanese/Persian interpretations.

Tim, you can find hummous at your local Giant. They should have it fresh in the deli and also packaged in containers in the deli department with other kinds of dips and cheeses. It's cheap, good for you, and I've never encountered anyone who didn't like it. If they have it at the deli counter, they might give you a taste. You eat it as a dip with bread or crackers. I like it with raw carrots when I'm feeling virtuous. Bread, hummous, and carrots make a better dinner than a hamburger. You'll find slight variations in the spelling so don't let that throw you.

EDIT: It's chickpeas, sesame, garlic, cumin, pepper, and lemon juice.
