There are various theories about how morality originates, and on that level it is not bogus, agreed. But on the level of whether or not there is non- arbitrary moral knowledge, "absolutism" is a straw man that "relativists" like to knock down. If there is no basis for correcting or improving moral opinions, so that they conform to truth better, then there is no basis for moral discourse, and therefore, we are left to merely shout one another down, or fight. Surely, most relativists think that there is some meaningful basis for discussion, even if they think that some of the basis is merely postulated as a reasonable or useful hypothesis.....
