hjm, religion isn't bad, per se. it is the screwed up, arrogant, self serving and insecure human implementation that screws things up. and badly. the reality is that humans tend to be selfish by nature and it is hard to live together - people find reasons to to take things from others and usually means fighting. religion was just easy pickin's. if it wasn't religion, it would be something else. the book of job records god saying that creating and keeping the earth moving was easy compared to changing a person's heart. religious or not, the heart is the problem and we are all stubborn as mules. other worldly or not, that author had some insight. to blame external issues, like religion, misses the point, imho.
