OT-

I heard one commentator respond to Larry's proposal for a national ID card linked to a Federal database with: "If you sell databases, then I suppose the solution to every problem looks like a database."

The only people carrying cards with valid information will be law abiding citizens. The criminal element will find a way to counterfeit the cards just as they steal identities now. I was born but, fortunately, did not grow up in a country that required all people of color to carry Pass Cards and to show them on demand to anybody at any time. Not carrying one's card was even a crime. I am more than a bit uneasy about where Larry is going with this.
