Combjelly, to add to what you say, the SiSoft benchmarks (besides the memory test) are very highly cache resident, even in Intel's smaller 256KB cache. Adding more cache will do little to improve performance. The 3DMark test is more interesting, but there isn't a basis for comparison. I still think the extra cache will provide a large improvement for i845 chipsets and a smaller improvement for i850 chipsets.
