That's quite possible. And the best returns won't take intelligence, or deep study, or a lot of time following the markets. Mostly, what it will take is courage, the courage to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing. Late September counted as a time of extreme pessimism. Lipper says that stock mutual fund outflows hit a record in September. That was the time to go on margin.

When everyone says the bull market has resumed, and the only debate is how long it takes for the Nas to get back to 5000, that will be the time to be raising cash.
