But if you can get a P4 system at that price you can probably get an Athlon or Duron system for even less, or for the same price but with one or two upgrade of other components.

re: I saw an ad in USA Today for a Dell computer with 1.6GHz Pentium 4, 256MB of SDRAM, and a 15" monitor for $699....the Pentium 4 would still offer equal to greater performance. That makes it a better buy, IMHO.

How would it compare to athlon xp 1800+ / 256MB / 40GB /17" monitor for $649? Is p4 still a better deal? Is it going to be a better performer for a buck or just a better performer?

BTW why is it only the best companies like dell still offer 15" crt monitors? The only way to get 15" at ibuypower is in lcd variety :-))
