Much strange stuff going on.

I saw an interesting segment on CNN this morning about bounty hunters. Some big outfit has a couple of dozen bounty hunters of Middle Eastern background trying to nab the bad guys amongst us. There may be more of them from other companies. That wasn't clear to me.

The ones who spoke seemed very confident they could do the job, in part because they don't have to follow the same rules as law enforcement. They said they're not in it for the money, but of course would be pleased to take it.

I think it would be a hoot if they got the job done, but of course we will probably not know until long after the fact.

Yes, smallpox is much scarier. If we're freaking out like this over anthrax, the country would collapse at the prospect of smallpox. With our psyche, all Osama would have to do is spray Alar on our apples.

Hey, Rambi! Long time. That's 30% die, 70% live. That gives ya a 7 out of 10 chance. Better odds than Vegas.

Here's an article that goes into why it's good to hear about it and learn. Those things, as opposed to replacing "All Anthrax, all the time" with "All Our Impending Doom, all the time". One, we are going to be spending money to upgrade our stock, so's we need to know that. And know that this is a "weak" spot but things are being put in place to deal with it. I think it is important to know, anyway. But not stir up debilitating fear over it. But X has a point about scary stuff.

>>Health and Human Services (news - web sites) Secretary Tommy Thompson said that President Bush (news - web sites) plans on requesting $509 million, which would be aimed at speeding up the development and production of a smallpox vaccine.

"We think we'll be able to purchase some smallpox vaccine and start manufacturing yet this year," Thompson said.<<

I saw an SNL rerun the other night with Joe Cocker and his immitator, John Belushi, singing together. Not the same as live, I reckon.
