"I was referring primarily to MSFT's inclusion of increasingly large investment gains in its earnings over the past few quarters, followed by the exclusion of a stunningly large investment loss in the last quarter." -Dave

As they did last time, they fully disclosed the losses.

Microsoft shares rose 72 cents to $56.75 in regular trading, and climbed as high as $57.95 after the results were announced. They have gained 31 percent this year.
