On a more uplifting note...I received this email today and thought it was a terrific idea.

Shirley's son is a firefighter in NYC working at the World Trade Center. Carolyn's fiancé is also a firefighter working at the WTC. These men work 24 hour shifts. Carolyn's fiancé is trained in search and rescue so he is one of the firefighters who has gone and is going into the cracks and crevices, looking for victims as he prayed for survivors. Believe me when I tell you they have both seen horrors we could not even imagine. Take your worst nightmare and you still would not be able to imagine the
horror.

I have been asking Shirley and Carolyn to ask these guys what they need. Something that is not publicized. But, as you know, they have all the supplies they need for now so until they need more I will have to think of something else.

BUT I WANT TO DO SOMETHING.

On the news, they are saying that the firemen are getting discouraged because they are finding hardly anyone. They leave out the part about the horrific conditions and sights they see, But through it all, they go on and on and on and on. So here is my idea. Let's start a Card Writing Campaign. Go out to your local Hallmark or wherever it is you buy your greeting cards. Buy a card that reflects what your feelings are about their heroic efforts and send it to them at:

NYC Fire Department
1 Chase Manhattan Plaza
New York, NY 10005

Just think how powerful this message can be. If all of us send this e-mail to everyone you know, and they send it to everyone they know and if all of the people who get this note send a card, we can be the start of a miracle. Kind of like when the Post Office delivers all the mail addressed to Santa to Kris Kringle in Miracle on 34th Street.

Let's start our own miracle. Let's show these brave men how we feel about them. They need our love, support and encouragement.

What do you expect from those Liberals?

Independent Mason-Dixon poll
mason-dixon.com
puts VA in "dead heat" as GOP's Earley surges against the multimillionaire Dem trying to buy the governorship:

...For Earley, the poll is a chance to crow that his effort to paint Warner as a high-tax liberal is paying off ...Despite a lopsided advantage in fund raising and cash on-hand, Warner is again dipping into his personal fortune...
timesdispatch.com

About Mason-Dixon:

"While there is a mountain of national polling out there, nobody polls the states like Mason-Dixon. Mason-Dixon is providing high quality, impartial data and analysis on issues and candidates from coast to coast."

Charlie Cook
CNN Political Analyst,
Editor-Publisher,
The Cook Poltical Report

"For nearly two decades I have counted on Mason-Dixon to provide reliable, accurate, and non-partisan polling data from around the country. Mason-Dixon publishes some of the most comprehensive and revealing information about elections and issues to be found...they've never failed me."

Larry Sabato, PhD.
Political Analyst, Author, Scholar
University of Virginia

That's bad news for the Dems, the GOP always lags and then pulls strongly ahead in VA in the last few days. Looks like Earley may win comfortably if that historic pattern holds.
