Sorry, I was on another tract and misunderstood, or took it to another step you didn't mean.

There are also reserves in the water off China. Time is in years. Even "if" you already have the wells spotted.

Those things would be for the future.

The ME is just so frigging complex. Iran hates the Taliban, and Iran is Persian, and a different sect of Islam from the Saudi's. That is what, I've understood, partly explains their gradual return to a more open society even after going so strong for the guy after the Shah. (I could not possibly spell his name) And there is Qatar. And others.

The only reason I could see things falling apart with all countries in the ME is if something really bad happens between Israel and the Palestinians. Otherwise, we will have ties there, and we will get oil.

Myabe Russia's offer means we could cut out the Saudi's if they continue to stone-wall, and support BinLadin through the backdoor. I'm not a "with us or against us" type. Life is more shaded than that. Iran's offers are an incredible step towards better relations, like Russia's are.
Who would have thought? And maybe Syria is just old and tired now. Rebellion isn't as fun when your old as it is when you are young.
