Countries who support or sponsor terrorist activities or who will not take steps to eradicate these activities, pose a threat to the lives and livelihood of civilized nations. Further, when we develop trade relationships with countries who support the oppression and abuse of their own citizens, we are further sacrificing our own values and integrity for our own personal gain. At some point, the non-dollar costs of dealing with oppressive governments who give explicit or tacit support to terrorists activities, outweigh the benefit of cheaper oil products. With that in mind, I will be looking to purchase petroleum products that are explicitely free of middle east origin. I will send this letter to each of the oil companies who supplies products to the U.S. consumer market and make it clear that whichever oil company offers petroleum products that have no content which is of middle eastern origin, will get all of my business. This is not a boycott. It is an incentive for the oil companies to recognize the other factors that are going through their customers minds while looking to spend their dollars. Perhaps the answer is for the oil companies to raise prices to compensate for the decreased supply. Or perhaps it is an opportunity for the oil companies to pursue supplies from countries who have less oppressive governments and who do not sponsor or support terrorists and their activities. Either way, there is a market for the oil companies to exploit. That of the consumer who no longer wants to provide the trade dollars that fund abuse to women, abuse to other racial, religious and ethnic groups or that end up in the pockets of the people who are threatening our way of life as well our physical well being. Feel free to edit or otherwise make it your own before submitting. Dear Congressperson – I am writing you to urge you to support energy independence for the United States. I encourage you to support the following initiatives: 1. Exploration for and production of more domestic sources of oil, including offshore sources and the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). 2. Review of environmental standards to encourage more use of coal and nuclear energy for production of electricity. 3. Review of the ban on mining low sulfur coal at Grand Staircase-Escalante. 4. Encourage and support research in the production of synthetic oil from coal. 5. Support for the purchase from, and aid in, the development of the oil production capacity of the nations which are assisting us in the current conflict, particularly those in the former Soviet Union. At present we do not buy any oil from Russia, Uzbekistan, or Turkmenistan, which are certainly worthy of our support. 6. Reduce oil imports from hostile nations, such as Iraq and Iran. 7. Review of our support for Saudi Arabia, which has a troubling record of support for terrorist organizations. 8. Encourage research and development of alternative energy sources such as fuel cells, hybrid automobiles, solar panels, and the like. =========================================== Write your congress person – input your zip code and this website will tell you who to write to and give you a link if there is one.congress.org ------------------------------------house.gov And Senators...senate.gov ============================================================ Addresses of oil companies Chevron/Texaco mailto:comment@chevrontexaco.com British Petroleum:bp.com Exxon/Mobilexxon.mobil.com Shell Oil tell-shell@si.shell.com Shell also has uncensored forumswww-forums.shell.com .
