Ambush or detection by US forces might be the intentional result. Like football, he fakes a throw one way and runs another... Its just impossible to stop all media reports coming from the area, so if something like that is an issue, planners will try to make the issue work for them - or at minimum ensure that it doesn't invalidate their plans.
