Peter
re: being blamed on excess demand,
I must have missed that surge in demand and, obviously, it was missed by intel accountants since Intel planned to regain more than .7% of market share,.

Peter, Re: "Intel specifically mentions 2 GHz P4s to be in short supply due to high demand. - Just a question: Could it also be because of limited bin-splits?"

I think I know which one people here will assume.

BTW, Intel didn't confirm anything to The Inquirer. This is all heard second, third, or fourth hand.

This does not compute.

Effective October 14, 2001, P4 2ghz q1000 price: $562 intc.com

Pricewatch shows $515 pricewatch.com

There aren't many listings at that level, but there seem to be plenty of retail packaged 2ghz P4s w/fan & 3 year warranty at $550-560. I remember when the PPro 200 was the top dog processor, when it was in short supply, street price was double the Intel q1000 list.
