We should start a Countdown to an AMD-Free Jerry

Let's see - he's leaving next April - right?

That's about 6 1/2 months so:

195 Days Until No Jerry !!

Fyo, Re:Jerry is Jerry and that isn't going to change. If he holds true to his promise, he'll only be in charge for another 6-8 months (IIRC).

However, your example of Lexus is actually quite intriguing. Maybe AMD should buy SGI and use their brand name as a "Lexus", keeping AMD as their "Toyota". If need be, they could have SGI completely vertically integrated, delivering high-end workstations and servers (including the service aspect), as well as the chips. SGI has a very solid reputation and a very solid work force (from what I understand, anyway).

SGI used to be one of "the" companies in Silicon Valley. Jurassic Park and Toy Story put them into all the news media, not just Computerworld. Clinton and Gore further got them onto all the news when they visited them about five years ago. It's been all bad news for them since, and what people they haven't laid off have probably quit by now. Besides, they've gone all Intel.

Maybe Jerry will do a personality makeover for the sake of Hector and his other successors. Nah!
