Oh I didn't say that the United States did not have its rightful share of fools and foolishness. Please, Sir, we are equal to any in the world! But as my father, who was so far right-wing that he supported Strom Thurmond for President in 1948, used to say: "In this country, we protect ourselves from the government. In those other countries, the government protects itself from the people." Every official and armed forces officer swears to protect--not the government, not some leader, not some party, but the constitution. There are a lot of floatation cells built into our ship of state, though sometimes it takes on a lot of bilge.
