wow, but the real question is how long it would take to process that on a new cluster without changing basic algorithms.
One of my friends outperformed NASA cray in modeling Navier-Stokes eq. by a factor of 160,000 on his pentium 150 by simply changing algorithms.
There were a number of interesting articles published about that experiment few years back. Look it up under wavelets and Navier-Stokes

Not necessarily. That is a research foundation. It could equally well be the case that Intel thought that donating the processors would be good PR.

If Intel sells ZERO ITaniums between now and the end of 2002, they will still have OUTSOLD AMD's Shamster by 320 units.
