Andy, I haven't heard anything different, but perhaps instructional improvements suggest current attempts to acclimate software for when a future desktop processor (late Northwood stepping?) has Hyperthreading enabled. Intel has said that Hyperthreading will eventually make it into a desktop processor, so maybe even a future Northwood processor will have it. It seems like a trivial thing to do, since I believe all Pentium 4 processors have it, although it's disabled.
