My brother hopped the border to do his major shopping in the US groceries included. The savings offered a free weekend vacation outside of his city. As the currency difference became greater the savings and the excursions to US shopping centers became less.

That's a very good point. I was at the South Coast Plaza Mall in L.A last week. The clothing prices without exchange were very similar to prices in our malls. With exchange the clothing was far too expensive. Now add 23% sales tax. If you live in Buffalo, you're gonna drive over the boarder, get $1.45 on the dollar and save 9% in sales tax.

Anyone know what the limits on personal imports from Canada are? We have to spend at least 48 hours in the US to bring back $500 of goods duty free. Free trade is supposed to fix that...
