Yes, and some faith and luck.

Given the choice of only having one of them, I'd choose luck. I believe the single most important factor in my investing success is that I invested during the longest economic expansion in history. That was beyond my control. It was very lucky.

I was also very lucky that the expansion happened when I had the most disposable income of my career.
