I don't know, E. The "excuse" in Afghanistan is compelling, IMO. Iraq is less obvious. I would like to finish off Iraq. I didn't favor the Gulf War, but since we did it anyway, we should have finished the job. But I don't know that we have a sufficiently compelling rationale right now. Nor do I know that we don't. If it turns out that Iraq has something to do with the anthrax, that would do the trick. The situation with Iraq will be clearer by the time comes to do anything about it. With regard to Carolyn, I was more disappointed in Chris and Lazarus for their roles in it. Although I share your distaste for her attitude, Carolyn was an outside agitator. Chris and Laz have been part of the thread. New subject. This is from a NYT editorial that Po posted this morning. Message 16527795 <<Now, as Afghans, Pakistanis and Americans look to the future of Afghanistan, most plans call for a broad-based new government giving representation to all of Afghanistan's ethnic groups and major political parties, including the Taliban. No one, however, has called for the participation of women, even though women, after many years of war, now almost certainly make up the majority of the adult Afghan population.>> I wonder if anyone is giving any thought to including a few women in the interim government and I further wonder if there are any women left there who are qualified. I understand that getting a governing coalition together is tricky business and I wouldn't want to compromise it to push for women, but still, it would be nice. Karen
