Did you see this about the suitcase in the Philadelphia bus terminal:

Plastic Explosive Found in Philadelphia Bus Station

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Powerful military explosives and detonation cord were found in a suitcase at a busy Greyhound Bus Station in Philadelphia on Friday and removed without injuries or incident, police said.

``If it had gone off, it would have blown up the whole terminal,'' Sgt. Roland Lee, a Philadelphia police spokesman, told Reuters. ``It was very disturbing because that location is heavily traveled.''

The discovery comes amid heightened security in the United States around transport facilities following the Sept. 11 hijack attacks that killed nearly 5,400 people.

The five ounces of C-4 explosive, about the size of a bar of soap, was found in a suitcase along with about 1,000 feet of detonation cord. It had been checked in a locker at the Greyhound station on Sept. 29, police said.

Police said there was no threat of explosion because no detonation cap was attached to the plastic explosive.

``My sense is that whoever put it there ... meant to just store it for a short period of time and pick it up, and for some reason never showed up or showed up too late,'' Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Timoney told CNN.

Luggage claim workers opened the suitcase on Friday after the time limit for checked luggage in lockers had expired, and found the explosive and detonation cord inside, police said.

They called the police and evacuated the terminal. The bomb squad then removed the suitcase with the explosive.

Police said they are working with the FBI (news - web sites) and other federal agencies to investigate. Police were also checking fingerprints and surveillance tapes of the terminal for clues as to who checked the suitcase.

``We think we have some good forensic evidence, and there was some videotape which was confiscated,'' Timoney said. ``It's of poor quality but we're trying to enhance it right now.''

Timoney said the explosives had the potential to destroy the terminal but could not have been used without the blasting cap.

C-4 was used in the attack on the U.S. destroyer USS Cole (news - web sites) at Yemen's Aden port last year, which the United States blames on Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s al Qaeda network.
