If we are going to whack the Northern Aliance and the Taliban our choice is to make Afghanistan a colony and develop a democracy, or just destroy the place and leave an anarchy that would allow Al-Qaida to continue to operate. The first would be dificult and expensive and generally not a good idea IMO. The second would make the whole effort pointless. I'm not saying we should walk away, but our role in post war Afghanistan should not be huge or prolonged. Tim
