Personally, I think the term "Taliban moderate" is an oxymoron (and if I said it twice for Karen's benefit, they would be oxymora) and I'd be against the idea, if I were of the mindset that installing puppet governments would lend any semblance of stability to the area.

It could be unclear who is part of the Taliban in certain cases. How would you count a warlord who goes back and forth changeing sides to whoever he thinks has the upper hand?

I would as soon have "Taliban moderates" in power as Northern Alliance. And Tim raised a good point: How do you tell who's who?

Installed "puppet" governments have sometimes done quite well: Germany and Japan.

By the way, Laz, do you think the posters on this thread find it difficult to listen to, and engage with, a person whose viewpoint differs from their own?
Some do. Some don't. Compared to, say, Impeach GWB, this thread is pretty good.
