OT- In case anyone doesn't know about the concert on TV tonight: VH1 @ 7 PM ET:
Concert for New York
300 min.
Some of music's biggest names, including Paul McCartney, team up to benefit the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on New York City and to honor rescue workers in a five-hour concert from Madison Square Garden.
In addition to the former Beatle, scheduled performers include the Who, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Backstreet Boys, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Billy Joel, U2's Bono and the Edge, Destiny's Child, Jay-Z, David Bowie, Elton John, Bon Jovi, Marc Anthony, Macy Gray, Melissa Etheridge, Goo Goo Dolls and rock act Five for Fighting, along with Janet Jackson, who appears via satellite. Paul Shaffer and the Late Show musicians serve as the house band for the event. Says Rick Krim, a VH1 vice president, “We've got an awesome talent arsenal, and we have the opportunity to create some unique collaborations.” A third of the house is slated to include invited New York firefighters, police officers, rescue workers and their families. “If that doesn't offer enough inspiration for these artists to take their performances up a notch,” Krim says, “I can't imagine what would.”

Also on the bill: comics Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Crystal, David Spade, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Will Farrell, Jimmy Fallon and Denis Leary; actors John Cusack, Meg Ryan, Susan Sarandon, Michael J. Fox, Harrison Ford, Salma Hayek, Julia Stiles, Jim Carrey, Richard Gere, Hilary Swank, Mark Wahlberg, Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe; and interviewer James Lipton. In addition, a series of original short films from such filmmakers as Woody Allen, Spike Lee, Edward Burns, Martin Scorsese and Kevin Smith are slated to be presented during the show. All proceeds aid victims and their families.
