This is just another attempt by Pakistan to continue to have "their" terrorists in power.

Musharraf Adviser Gives Interview
Saturday October 20 9:27 AM ET dailynews.yahoo.com

BERLIN (AP) - The U.S.-led military operation in Afghanistan (news - web sites) likely will last until March or April of next year and exact a high death toll on Taliban fighters, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's security adviser said in an interview released Saturday.

``The attack will certainly last until March or April of next year,'' Talat Masoud was quoted as saying by the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. After that, he suggested a multiethnic government including moderate members of the Taliban would be formed.

Masoud backed the use of ground troops in the military operation, but cautioned that the United States shouldn't try to wage a conventional war against the ruling Taliban militia and repeat the mistakes of the Soviet Union in its 1979-89 war in Afghanistan.

Only special forces would be useful against Taliban guerrilla tactics in Afghanistan, he added. One-on-one fighting ``will cost the lives of many of the 50,000 Taliban fighters there are at the moment,'' Masoud said. ``That will discourage them.''

U.S. forces struck Afghanistan by land and air Saturday, launching the first commando raid of the war against terrorism. The U.S. special forces raided a Taliban garrison near Kandahar and were extracted by helicopter, the Pentagon (news - web sites) said.
