"If Avnet picked up 0.5 million CPU's, I'm sure they got a good deal. How low did they go?"

Beats me. Distributors seem to get really good margins, they are often 30% or more above quantity 1000 price, even in quantity 1000. I am talking non-CPU prices here. I cannot get into that part of their website without being registered as a reseller, so I don't know what kind of pricing they have on these components. Distributors gripe me, the OEMs direct you there if you can't sign contracts for very large quantities, and the distributors are really high priced, and that assumes they have stuff in stock. So if you are doing limited runs of 100s, or even 1000s of units, getting components is a real chore. Grumble, grumble, grumble. Some of the manufacturers are eliminating distributors and selling smaller quantities through their websites. I really like that trend.

"News of this deal bummed me out"

Why? I doubt if Avnet is pricing them lower than the gray market, but the buyer does a a replacement warranty so I guess that is worth something. AMD gets to sell the units instead of dumpstering them, or selling them in a dutch auction like Intel has done. Yeah, they'll impact the ASPs, but at least they generate revenue.

Re: "Any, hey, it was fun to hear Jerry crow about how they were going to kick arse. "

Even FUNNIER since Jerry just his OWN ass kicked by Intel's DUD Pentium 4.
